ZAKA Chairman Yehuda Meshi Zahav at the launch of the new ZAKA Jet Ski Unit | Three years after the ZAKA Divers Unit began operating, the volunteer rescue and recovery organization has launched the Sapir Jet Ski Unit to offer additional assistance and logistical back up in ZAKA's maritime rescue operations.
The new unit, made up of 15 jet skis owned and driven by private individuals who have undergone specialist training by ZAKA personnel, will provide the much needed logistical back up for the ZAKA Divers Unit, transporting equipment to the site of the search. 5-Oct-08 In an impressive ceremony conducted recently on Capitol Hill, Washington DC, over 20 Congressmen saluted the achievements of the ZAKA volunteer organization. The event took place to promote the recognition by the US Congress of the ZAKA volunteer organization, a UN-recognized volunteer humanitarian organization. In addition to the Congressmen, attendees included politicians, dignitaries, VIPs, and, representing ZAKA, founder and chairman Yehuda Meshi Zahav, Chairman of the US Friends of ZAKA Adv, Robert Rimberg, member of the US ZAKA board Jack Avital, Ezra Hanoun. ZAKA volunteer Motti Bukchin briefs Belz yeshiva boys on safe hiking | As part of its ongoing safety prevention activities in Israel, the ZAKA organization recently launched a campaign entitled "Hike and return home safely", providing information on safe hiking to all sectors of the community, but particularly to yeshiva students on their "bein hazmanim" breaks.
The importance and significance of this campaign received a welcome boost from the Admor of Belz Shlita, in the form of a ruling that boys from the Belz Yeshiva in Jerusalem could not leave for the traditional Bein Hazmanim camp without first attending a ZAKA safety seminar.
