After intensive work in collecting remains at the site of the plane crash near Shikharpur village, about 50 miles south of Katmandu, in which 14 people were killed, ZAKA International Rescue Unit volunteers and American doctors positively identified the remains of American Jewish trekker Irina Shekhets.
On arrival in Katmandu, ZAKA International Rescue Unit commander Mati Goldstein and veteran volunteer Dano Monkotovitch were welcomed at Chabad House where recovery efforts were coordinated with the local authorities. 30-Aug-10 In advance of the tens of thousands who are expected to pray at the final resting
place of Rabbi Nachman of Breslav in Uman, Ukraine during Rosh Hashana, ZAKA will
operate a Central Command for Assistance and First Aid at the site from Monday,
6 September through to Motzei Shabbat, 11 September.
In addition – and for the first time - ZAKA will cooperate with the local security

30-Aug-10 ZAKA International Rescue Unit volunteers left Israel last night for Nepal to
assist in the recovery and identification of Irina Shekhets, the American Jewish
tourist who was killed in Tuesday’s plane crash (24.8.10).
Several days after the plane crash, when it became clear that the Nepalese authorities
were unable to recover and identify her badly charred remains, the Israel-based
and UN-recognized ZAKA International Rescue Unit decided to send out a team, headed
by the unit commander Mati Goldstein and Dano Monkotovitch. Both Goldstein and Monkovitch
